Certified Indoor Environmental Consultant

"Healthier Air Starts Here" (407) 383-9459

A Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant is a professional who can identify the causes of poor indoor air quality even when problems seem vague or unrelated to visible causes.

The Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultant is trained to see a building the way a general practitioner sees the body of his patient as an organic whole with dozens of interrelated systems contributing to overall health.

In order to diagnose the patient properly, the Consultant must be able to gather and interpret data from various systems operating in a building.

Microshield Consultants are Council-certified Indoor Environmental Consultants (CIEC)

CIEC's have earned the most respected certification in the field of indoor environmental consulting.

A CIEC is certified as knowledgeable and experienced in HVAC, building science, microbial issues, lead/asbestos and industrial hygiene/toxicology.

  • To earn and maintain the CIEC, every candidate must:
  • Demonstrate at least eight (8) years of verifiable field experience in IAQ consulting
  • Pass a rigorous, psychometrically rated examination based on broad industry
  • knowledge rather than a course curriculum
  • Earn the unanimous approval of the CIEC certification board
  • Re-certify every two years
  • Participate in 20 hours of professional development activities each year
  • Maintain the highest ethical standards

The CIEC certification is accredited by the Council for Engineering and Scientific Specialty Boards (CESB), a nationally recognized independent accreditation body. ACAC certifications are the ONLY designations in indoor air quality to earn CESB accreditation.

CIEC Applicants must demonstrate experience in several areas of IAQ. Experience should include investigations, consulting and project management and/or report writing, and must come from at least three of the following five areas:

  • Lead/Asbestos
  • Microbial
  • IH/Chemicals/Toxicology
  • Building Sciences

The Council certified Indoor Environmental Consultant (CIEC) designation documents the Consultants training and field experience in building sciences, industrial hygiene and indoor environmental risk assessment which warrants professional recognition.

The certification documents the Consultants skills and knowledge base regarding design, construction and operation of buildings with respect to the quality and efficiency of the indoor environment in a manner that could be relied upon by individuals and organization seeking their services as consultants or advisors for the assessment and management of new or established indoor environments.
